The Menstrual Cycle

Ovulation

A phase that occurs in the menstruation cycle is ovulation. Ovulation occurs when a young woman starts puberty and it is when a mature egg/ovum is released from one of the ovaries. For context, the ovaries are the two female reproductive organs that are found in the pelvis. If the egg is fertilized by sperm then travels down the fallopian tube, then pregnancy happens. If not, then the lining of the uterus sheds during menstruation, which is what we will be talking about next.

Menstruation

Menstruation is another phase of the menstrual cycle, and it is when the lining of the uterus/endometrium is shed. Menstruation occurs throughout the reproductive life of women. If fertilization doesn’t occur, the uterus along with mucus and blood from the vagina and cervix make up the menstrual flow that leaves the body through the vagina during that period.

Additional Information

A young woman usually starts her first menstrual period at the age of 12 years old, and it occurs about 2 to 3 years after her breasts begin to grow. Other factors, such as stress, diet, and exercise, can have an impact on when a girl gets her first period. As we know, young girls are bound to get their periods, but factors that contribute to this certainly play a role in when it happens. In addition, a period usually lasts around 28 days and may range from 21 days and as long as 45 days. This content is important for young women and women in general so that they may understand this new transition and phase into their lives as they are developing into adulthood.
